Filmmaker Helps Boy's Arcade Become An Internet Sensation
BOYLE HEIGHTS (CBS) — Caine Monroy had lots of time to kill when he'd hang around his father's used auto parts store in Boyle Heights.
The 9-year-old began to collect cardboard boxes and built an elaborate arcade at the main entrance, complete with games, tickets and prizes.
But Caine never got any customers.
One day filmmaker Nirvan Mullick stopped in to buy a part and became Caine's first customer.
Mullick used Hidden Los Angeles's Facebook page to spread the word about the inventive set-up and arranged for a flashmob to visit the arcade last October.
Crowds of people showed up, making Caine's dream of owning a popular arcade a reality.
Mullick captured it all on video and posted the boy's touching reaction on Vimeo this week.
The video has gone viral, with more than one million people having watched.
Caine's arcade is open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays, and Sundays by appointment.
