Female Pedestrian Struck By SUV In South LA Crosswalk
SOUTH LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A woman crossing the street in South L.A. early Saturday was struck by a vehicle and injured.
CBS2/KCAL9 was at the scene reporting on a gas station fire when photographer Barry Johnson witnessed the collision.
It happened just after 6 a.m. as the woman was heading northbound, walking in the crosswalk at Figueroa Street and Vernon Avenue, Johnson said.
He says a white Chevy SUV was heading west on Vernon and allegedly had a green light.
The driver, who allegedly attempted to brake, didn't have enough time and collided with the woman, according to Johnson.
She was thrown 15 feet and landed in the middle of the intersection. CBS2/KCAL9 reporter Joy Benedict says they woman was conscious and talking, but unable to move. The pedestrian was transported to a hospital.
The driver stayed at the scene and was not cited.
Police say the investigation into this collision is ongoing.
