Female Passenger, 16, Killed On Her Way To High School In Crash Blamed On Rain
RANCHO PALOS VERDES — (CBS) A 16-year-old female passenger was killed Wednesday in a car driven by a friend as both were on their way to attend morning classes at Peninsula High School in Rancho Palos Verdes.
The single-car crash hit a pole.
Investigators at the scene suspected rain-slicked roads were a factor.
They did not say how fast the car was going at the time of the crash.
After 8:30, the accident was reported at Hawthorne Boulevard at Palos Verdes Drive North, said Sgt. Mark Moffett of the Sheriff's Lomita Station.
The Daily Breeze identified the deceased as Celine Naef of Rolling Hills Estates. Ann Sterling, reporting for KCAL9 and CBS2, identified the driver as the girl's boyfriend.
Classmates described Naef as "sweet" and "highly motivated," according to the Daily Breeze.
