Feinstein Makes Endorsement For Harman's Congressional Seat
WASHINGTON (AP) — Sen. Dianne Feinstein is endorsing a Los Angeles city councilwoman who is hoping to succeed Rep. Jane Harman in Congress.
Monday's announcement caps a string of early endorsements for Janice Hahn as she moves quickly to demonstrate to potential opponents that she has the support of key Democratic figures. Earlier endorsements came from Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and California Assembly Speaker John Perez.
Citing Hahn's tenure on the council of California's most populous city, Feinstein said she knew of nobody better prepared to represent the district.
Harman, a Democrat, has said she will resign her seat by the end of the month. She will become president and chief executive of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars on Feb. 28.
A special election date is not yet scheduled.
