FBI Searching For 'McBandit' Bank Robber
GLENDORA (CBSLA.com) — The FBI is looking for a bank robber they're calling the "McBandit" because he puts the money into a McDonald's bag.
Security surveillance footage captured the suspect robbing at least two banks during the past month.
The first robbery occurred on Nov. 1 at a U.S. Bank branch inside a Vons supermarket in Upland.
On Monday, investigators said the McBandit robbed a Chase branch inside a Ralphs supermarket in Glendora.
Investigators said, in both cases, the suspect slipped a teller a note demanding cash, which he later stuffed into a McDonald's bag.
"The first robbery, the first note, he referenced he had a bomb. The second robbery, he referenced he had a gun. But, in both notes he said he would kill somebody there," FBI investigator Steve May said.
Both times, the McBandit made off with an undisclosed amount of money.
The suspect was described as chubby, between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 9 inches tall, with blond, shaggy hair.
After the Glendora robbery, a witness reportedly saw the suspect drive off in a light blue Toyota compact car, which may have a hatchback with a rear shark fin antenna. The vehicle's license plate started with "5M."
Authorities ask that anyone who sees the car write down the license plate and call law enforcement. They are advising the public to stay away from the suspect as he is considered armed and dangerous.
