FBI Investigating Possible Link Between Series Of San Gabriel Valley Lockdowns
ARCADIA (CBSLA.com) — The FBI joined Arcadia police Friday in their search for the suspect behind threatening calls that led to the lockdown of a local school, as well as several public facilities over the past week.
Arcadia Police received a phone call around 3 p.m. Thursday from an anonymous person reporting that he was at Arcadia High School, 180 Campus Drive.
The person stated that he was going to start shooting students with an assault rifle, which prompted a lockdown. Nearly 4,000 students and faculty were subsequently directed off campus.
Authorities then received a second threatening call as the FBI and armed officers conducted a sweep of the campus.
"The caller told the officers to back off or they would get shot," Lt. Roy Nakamura said.
The search of the campus continued and no suspect was found. The lockdown was lifted shortly before 6 p.m., officials said.
School resumed as normal Friday.
Authorities believe Thursday's incident could be linked to a series of similar threats that have been made across the San Gabriel Valley over the past week.
According to officials, threats have been made at schools, health care facilities and shopping centers in Monrovia, Duarte, Glendora, Arcadia, West Covina and Covina.
No suspects or weapons were found following any of the incidents.
