Father Suspected Of Killing His Son, Injuring 5 Family Members

SAN BERNARDINO (AP) — Investigators are seeking details in an attack on a Southern California family that left a teen dead, four other children and their mother injured, and their father in police custody.

Ian Roderiquez, 35, faced questioning Thursday, a day after deputies responded to a 911 call by a neighbor who reported a man inside their home screaming for help.

Roderiquez was booked into jail on suspicion of murder, attempted murder and torture, the sheriff-coroner's department said in a statement.

His 16-year-old son, Richard Roderiquez, was pronounced dead at the scene. Sujal Roderiquez, 35, was hospitalized in critical condition, the statement said.

The other children -- Jacob Roderiquez, 13, Gabriel Roderiquez, 12, Daniella Roderiquez, 10, and Yasmine Roderiquez, 8 -- were hospitalized with multiple injuries, the sheriff-coroner's statement said.

All were expected to survive and will be placed in the custody of Children and Family Services when they are released from the hospital.

Ian Roderiquez was husband to Sujal Roderiquez and father to all five children, sheriff's spokeswoman Jodi Miller told the San Bernardino Sun. It was unknown if he had an attorney.

Authorities were still trying to determine the exact cause of the victims' injuries. Sheriff's spokeswoman Arden Wiltshire said investigators couldn't confirm reports that the victims were stabbed.
