Fans Line Up To See 'The Hunger Games' Debut
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Hundreds of eager fans waited anxiously to see the highly-anticipated movie, "The Hunger Games" Thursday night.
The film, based on the adaptation of Suzanne Collins' best-selling novel, opens at midnight at some Southern California movie theaters.
Entertainment reporter Suzanne Marques spoke with fans at The Grove who were lucky enough to gain access to a VIP party with some of the film's stars including Liam Hemsworth.
Some die-hard fans even dressed up as their favorite characters. "It was a couple weeks in the making. We've been getting really excited about it," one fan dressed up as lead character Katniss said.
"This has been a two-day process. I am such a 'Hunger Games' fan and I can't wait to meet Liam," Hilary Sovielo said.
Sovielo was able to meet the star because she purchased her tickets over a month in advance.
"Right now we're selling ten tickets a second, so we had no idea it was going to be this huge," a Fandango representative said.
"The Hunger Games" opens nationwide in theaters Friday and industry analysts believe the franchise could rival the billion-dollar grosses of both "Harry Potter" and the "Twilight" sagas.
