Memorial Banners Allow Fans To Leave Messages In Honor Of Jerry Buss
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Lakers fans are invited to leave personal messages for Dr. Jerry Buss on memorial banners through Friday.
The banners are currently up in Nokia Plaza at L.A. Live.
"Fans are welcome to come down and have the opportunity to share what Dr. Buss meant to them and pay their respects on the Memorial Banners," spokeswoman Cara Vanderhook said.
Additional banners will be set up around STAPLES Center Wednesday through the Lakers game on Friday.
Dr. Buss, who is known as one of the most successful owners in all of sports, died Monday of kidney failure after battling cancer for 18 months. He was 80 years old.
An invitation-only memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Nokia Theater. The service can be seen live on CBSLA.com and KCAL9.
The Lakers will also wear a patch of 'JB' on the right side of their jerseys to honor their owner, who bought the team in 1979. The patches are for sale for $10 at the TEAM LA Store at STAPLES with proceeds benefiting the Lakers Youth Foundation.
The team will honor Buss before their game against the Boston Celtics Wednesday night.
