Fans Buzzing Over Tupac 'Resurrection' At Coachella

COACHELLA VALLEY (CBS) — For one night only, the dead walked — and rhymed and danced — among the living in the Southern California desert.
A stunned crowd of as many as 75,000 people was on hand at the 2012 Coachella Music Festival to witness the digital resurrection of late rapper Tupac Shakur in a performance that stirred up tons of buzz on Twitter and left many fans unnerved.
Joining his former Death Row Records label mates Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg onstage, the holographic image wowed concertgoers when it addressed the crowd in Tupac's voice, yelling "Coachella!" while wearing the late rapper's signature sagging jeans and Timberland boots.
The image went on to join Dre and Snoop for a rendition of "Hail Mary" from Shakur's last album, "The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory", followed by a duet with Snoop on the 1996 hit "2 Of Amerikaz Most Wanted".
Shakur was shot dead in Las Vegas on September 13, 1996, at the age of 25.
While much of the crowd cheered on the performance, some celebrities on Twitter were taken aback by the ultra-realistic appearance of the hologram.
Questo of The Roots tweeted, "That Pac Hologram haunted me in my sleep. Rest In Peace", while singer Katy Perry posted a tweet saying "I think I might have cried when I saw Tupac".
Shakur wasn't the only hologram expected to make a cameo at Coachella: late R&B singer Nate Dogg — who died in 2011 — was also rumored to appear on stage with his former Death Row crew, but never materialized.
The hologram was created using rear-projection technology similar to what was used to beam an image of singer Mariah Carey to five different places at once during a concert in Europe last year.
