Family Remembers 7-Eleven Clerk, 31, Killed During Armed Robbery

HIGHLAND PARK (CBSLA.com) — The family of a 7-Eleven clerk murdered during an armed robbery in Highland Park is speaking out.

Gonzalo Garcia was fatally shot while on the job last month.

KCAL9's Suraya Fadel reports his family members gathered Tuesday evening in Highland Park to attend services in his memory, and are filled with questions as to how and why he died.

"We miss him a lot," Garcia's cousin Elizabeth Duenas said. "And there are days when we still cry."

"He had a big heart. It was rare to see him angry," another cousin, Teresa Duenas Flores, said.

"The way he died - violently - just the way it happened. It was really hard, it hit hard," she added.

At Garcia's home, his mother and father just arrived from Mexico, and said their loss is unbearable.

"They have no heart. They have no conscious," Duenas Flores said of those responsible for her cousin's death.

Police say Garcia, a 31-year-old father, son, brother, cousin and nephew, was an innocent man who did nothing wrong and ran from the suspects.

The shooter, a convicted felon on probation, was arrested two weeks ago.

Police are still looking for a second suspect.

"[We] can't wait... when they call and say he has been arrested. We're waiting for that," Duenas said.

Garcia's funeral service is scheduled for this weekend.
