Family Of LAPD Detective Killed In Cement Truck Crash Files Wrongful-Death Lawsuit
BEVERLY HILLS (CBSLA.com) — The mother and children of a Los Angeles police officer who died in a collision with a truck on a steep Beverly Hills street is suing the city, the owner of the truck and the driver for wrongful death.
Detective Ernest Allen, a 27-year veteran of the LAPD, was off-duty May 9 when he was killed after his vehicle was hit by a cement truck on Loma Vista Drive in Trousdale Estates.
The accident occurred on the same portion of the street where LAPD Officer Nicholas Lee was killed March 7.
Allen's mother, Sarah Allen, and his two children Ernest Jr. and Latrice, filed the lawsuit Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court.
Aside from the city of Beverly Hills, Sun Valley-based Over & Over Ready Mix Inc. and the truck driver, Brandon Cascio, are listed as defendants.
The suit also alleges negligence, negligent hiring and that a dangerous condition existed on public property.
The Allens are seeking unspecified damages against all three parties.
