Family Of Elderly Man Killed In Hit-And-Run Still Reeling Over His Death
RESEDA (CBSLA.com) — The family of an 82-year-old man who was killed by a hit-and-run driver in Van Nuys back in August is still dealing with the pain of the loss.
Hengane Abbassi, the daughter of Asghar Abbassi, said her father had a daily morning ritual of walking in his neighborhood.
He was less than a mile from his home, crossing Valerio Street and White Oak Avenue with his walker on Aug. 26, when he was struck by a black Nissan 350Z.
"It makes me real angry," said Hengane.
Police said Abbassi was launched across the intersection. A residential security camera captured him rolling several times.
Detectives said the driver was speeding and never stopped to render aid or call 911.
"So heartless. No words for that," Hengane said.
The city, along with the Los Angeles Police Department, will announce a $50,000 reward Friday morning for the arrest and conviction of the driver.
"I hope a lot that we can find him," said Hengane.
Abbassi's wife of 63 years is still too distraught to talk about her husband's death.
"My mom is lost. I'm lost," said Hengane.
