Family Of 8 Allowed Back Home Temporarily After Being Evicted
ORANGE (CBS) — There is a temporary reprieve for a family of eight, including a child with cancer, who were evicted from their home in Orange on Thursday.
Michele Gile, reporting for CBS2 and KCAL9, says mom, dad and their six children have been allowed back home. What remains unclear is for how long.
When we reported the story Thursday, the family had been given 15 minutes to pack what they could. The locks were changed and many of their belongings remained inside. Our viewers emailed and phoned the station offering help so the Ramirez's wouldn't end up on the streets.
The youngest, Jesus, had just returned from Children's Hospital where he was having a scan done for an upcoming surgery.
Unbeknownst to the family, the house they've rented for the past 6 years was foreclosed upon.
Monthly payments of $2,200 were mailed to the owner and cashed yet the Ramirez's only learned last week that something was amiss.
As they scrambled for a place to spend the night, a representative with the company involved in the foreclosure returned late in the day and gave the Ramirez's a new set of keys and last night they were back in their own beds shaken by the experience and unsure where to turn next.
"We do not have anything in writing saying that there's been a stay or that it's been stopped so we don't know how many days there going to be able to stay here. We don't know if we're going to be able to negotiate for time with the bank," said Celia Garcia, a family friend.
Gile reported that a real estate company is preparing at some point to sell the home. For now, it is a waiting game.
