Ex-Teacher Pleads Not Guilty To Posing As A Woman Online To Get Boys To Send Him Pornographic Pics
NEWPORT BEACH (CBSLA.com) — A former Orange County high school teacher and baseball coach pleaded not guilty Friday to posing as a woman online in order to get teenage boys to send him pornographic pictures of themselves.
Zachary Reeder, 30, is charged with 22 counts of using a minor for sex acts, 15 counts of distributing pornography to a minor, 13 counts of contacting a child with the intent to commit a lewd act, six counts of lewd acts on a child, two counts of lewd acts on a child younger than 14, a count of possession and control of child pornography and a count of distribution of child pornography, which are all felonies.
If convicted, he could face up to 44 years in prison.
Reeder was a history teacher at Servite High School in Anaheim, as well as an assistant baseball coach at Beckman High School in Irvine.
Investigators believe the suspect took a woman's photo, created a fake Facebook account, and tried to get the boys, some of whom he would see in class or on the baseball field, to send him lewd photos, according to Deputy District Attorney Nicole Nicholson.
Prosecutors allege 106 kids, between the ages of 13 to 17, fell for the reported scheme, which happened between June 1, 2010, and Jan. 14, 2013.
Reeder was arrested in February on charges of victimizing at least 35 of the boys.
He's currently being held on $1 million bail.
