Ex-San Bernardino Mayor, Sheriff Fined For Illegal Gifts
SAN BERNARDINO (AP) — The former sheriff of San Bernardino County and the ex-mayor of San Bernardino have been fined by state regulators for taking illegal gifts.
The Fair Political Practices Commission on Thursday approved an agreement fining ex-Sheriff Gary Penrod $200 and former Mayor Judith Valles $400.
The FPPC says that in 2004 and 2005 they accepted memberships in the Arrowhead County Club, which charges hundreds of dollars a month for membership. The agency says that exceeded the value of gifts that public officials were allowed to receive.
FPPC Executive Director Roman Porter says both have paid the fines.
The San Bernardino Sun says Penrod and Valles couldn't be reached for comment Thursday.
