Ex-NFL Star Speaks Out About His Conviction In Deadly Love Triangle
SANTA ANA (CBS) — A former NFL player convicted in a deadly love triangle is speaking out for the first time since the jury found him guilty.
Bill McLoughlin, 55, was shot to death in the kitchen of his Newport Harbor in 1994. Prosecutors say McLoughlin's live-in girlfriend, Nanette Johnston, and her ex-NFL boyfriend, Eric Naposki, killed McLoughlin for his money.
"Eric Naposki did not murder Bill McLoughlin any way you slice it," Naposki, speaking in third person, told CBS' 48 Hours.
Naposki is in the Orange County Jail, where he is waiting to be sentenced for first-degree murder.
Prosecutors say Johnston gave Napoksi her house key, which he used to make a duplicate so he could enter McLoughlin's home.
They also say that Johnston provided Naposki with a map of the home's interior, so he knew exactly how to move around inside.
Johnston is scheduled to stand trial next month.
