Ex-King Smyth Ignores Boos, Scores As Oilers Beat Kings

(CBS) -- Ryan Smyth scored a fluke goal in the second period to give the Edmonton Oilers a 1-0 lead and they never looked back, beating the Los Angeles Kings x-x on Thursday night at the Staples Center.

Smyth who is from Alberta, Canada, urged the Kings during the off-season to trade him to his hometown team, the Oilers.

Los Angeles eventually did ship Smyth to Edmonton for Colin Fraser and a draft pick.

The win for the Oilers is their sixth straight, giving them their longest winning streak in nine years.

Meanwhile, the Kings have been shutout two games in a row, that's the first time that's happened since the Kings moved to Staples Center.

Los Angeles has now lost 3 straight games.
