Fully Vaccinated American Tourists To Be Allowed To Visit EU This Summer
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — The president of the European Commission told the New York Times Sunday that fully vaccinated Americans will be allowed to travel to and within the European Union this summer.
However, no timetable for travel was provided, nor any details about how U.S. tourists will have to prove that they've received vaccinations.
Travelers at Los Angeles International Airport on Sunday had mixed reactions about the announcement.
"If an individual is fully vaccinated, then I think you should allow international travel, absolutely," John Ragis, a U.K. resident told CBSLA.
Traveler Ryan Cooley, though, said that he while he understands the reasoning behind proving your vaccination status, he feels that it may be a little bit of gatekeeping, telling people when and where they can do something.
"Personally, I'm vaccinated, but, knowing people that don't want to get vaccinated, it's really odd that they're barred from going places," Cooley said.
Officials are still discussing how to make vaccine certificates technologically possible so that they can be read in different countries.
Los Angeles County health officials updated the county's travel advisory Monday in response to the new federal guidance issued last week.
Earlier this month, Los Angeles County public health officials announced that people who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 can travel without testing or quarantining.
