Endeavour Bound For Los Angeles After Completing Final Mission
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Shuttle Endeavour glided onto the tarmac at Kennedy Space Center early Wednesday morning after more than two weeks in orbit.
The shuttle's six-member crew conducted four spacewalks and installed a $2 billion physics experiment at the International Space Station during Endeavour's 25th and final mission.
The shuttle, which has logged nearly 123 million miles, will now make a $29 million move to the California Science Center near USC in Exposition Park.
Officials are brainstorming fundraising ideas for a new exhibit, which will take five years to build and cost close to $200 million.
Space shuttle Atlantis is now standing by at the vehicle assembly building in Florida. Its mission to the International Space Station begins July 8.
