Emotional Vigil Held For Murdered 3-Week-Old Long Beach Baby

LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) —  A candlelight vigil was held Friday evening to honor the life of a 3-week-old Long Beach baby who was found murdered in a dumpster five days ago.

Police are hoping the vigil will lead to clues to the person who murdered Eliza De La Cruz.

KCAL9's Juan Fernandez reported from the vigil.

The girl's grandmother, Lupe Lechuga, went door-to-door in the neighborhood asking anyone who might have seen anything to come forward.

"Someone had to see something," she said, crying. "please, please help us."

Last Saturday, the person who kidnapped and murdered the little baby also shot the child's mother, father and uncle. (The father was treated and released. The girl's mother and uncle remain hospitalized.)

Fernandez said the family's grief touched complete strangers who also attended the vigil to lend support.

"They did not have to take that precious angel's life and dump her like trash, " said parent Tina Eastcott.

Lechuga was joined by the group Justice for Murdered Children.

Detectives are hoping a $25,000 reward will lead to the baby killer.
