Elderly Woman Dead, Man Found Stabbed Inside Long Beach Home

LONG BEACH (CBS) —A 63-year-old Long Beach man allegedly stabbed an 88-year-old woman to death Thursday, then turned the knife on himself, police said.

Police responded to the home in the 3500 block of Los Coyotes Diagonal near Iroquois Avenue around 10 a.m., said Nancy Pratt of the Long Beach Police Department.

"When officers arrived they found a 63-year-old male suffering from stab wounds," Pratt said. "In another room officers located an 88-year-old female bleeding."

Paramedics pronounced the woman dead at the scene. The man was rushed to a hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.

The man remains in critical condition.

"Preliminary investigations have determined the male harmed the female victim causing her death then harmed himself," Pratt said.

Investigators believe the man and woman are related but the exact connection was unknown. Early broadcast reports said a man lived inside the house with his elderly mother but that could not be confirmed.
