Elderly Women Rescued From Burning House In Garden Grove

GARDEN GROVE (CBSLA.com) — Two elderly women were hospitalized Friday for treatment of injuries sustained in a fire that erupted in Garden Grove.
Firefighters were sent around 3:40 a.m. to a home located in the area of Woodland Lane and Lampson Ave for a report of a structure fire.
Upon their arrival, crews located heavy smoke and flames showing from a single story house.
Firefighters were able to force entry into the home, and knocked down flames in order to conduct a search of the property.
During the search, authorities located an elderly woman trapped inside a bedroom.
Firefighters were able to rescue the woman from the home.
A preliminary investigation revealed a caregiver who lives in a back house on the property unsuccessfully attempted to free the woman from the fire.
Both of the women were transported to UCI Medical Center for treatment of smoke inhalation.
At this time, they remain listed in stable condition.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze within a half hour.
Authorities said there were no working smoke detectors inside the home.
The fire has been deemed as accidental.
Damage to the structure is estimated at $100,000 and $20,000 to the contents.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
