Man Killed, Boy Wounded In El Monte Shooting
EL MONTE (CBSLA.com) — An argument at a red light apparently led to a shooting that killed a man and wounded a teenage boy in El Monte.
The shooting was reported at 11:14 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Garvey and Durfee Avenues, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Authorities said two women were driving a car with a man and a teenage boy in the back seat, when they were a gray compact sedan pulled up alongside them at a red light on Durfee Avenue. Sheriff's officials say words were exchanged between the people in each car.
During the altercation, the driver of the gray sedan got out and fired several rounds into the rear of the other car before getting back in and taking off, according to the sheriff's department.
The man and boy were hit by the gunfire, but the women were not harmed. They are being interviewed by investigators.
The driver took them to an area hospital, where the man was pronounced dead and the boy was in stable condition.
The relationship between the victims was not immediately clear. The man is believed to be in his 20s and the boy is 13 years old, according to reports.
