Ed Asner Invents Novel Fundraising Idea Using Celebrity Voices
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The group "Autism Speaks" has asked celebrities to take part in a unique fund-raising effort.
Fans can get Hollywood elite (like Tom Hanks, Morgan Freeman, Will Ferrell, Betty White) to record custom messages for them.
For $299, the celebrity records the message and Autism Speaks delivers a digital file of the celebrity speaking the fan's message. One catch. The message has to be PG.
The proceeds benefit Autism Speaks.
The idea is the brainchild of actor Ed Asner of "Mary Tyler Moore" and "Lou Grant" fame. His son Matt works for Autism Speaks.
Other stars taking part include Yankee Derek Jeter, Carrie Fisher, Leonard Nimoy, Patrick Stewart and William Shatner.
The fundraiser is expected to go from Dec. 3 - 9.
