East Los Angeles Man, 21, Busted For Tagging
EAST LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A 21-year-old East Los Angeles man was arrested Monday on suspicion of tagging a five-mile radius of East LA.
Luis Armando Mariscal was taken into custody with the aid of the "Graffiti Tracker" for allegedly tagging his moniker on walls and electrical boxes in and around Eugene Obregon Park at 4021 E. First St., said sheriff's Detective Mario Chairez.
The Graffiti Tracker, supported and funded by the office of Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina, tracks the works of taggers by photographing the damage done with a global position satellite-enabled camera, the detective said.
The information is then uploaded into a server where analysts read and input the intelligence into the system. They can identify whether the graffiti is gang-related and alert law enforcement.
Mariscal, who also goes by the name of "Mundo," was booked on suspicion of felony vandalism, with bail set at $10,000, Chairez said.
His alleged tagging caused $11,000 in damage. Officials said that figure could go higher as the investigation continues.
