East LA Woman, 85, Found Dead May Have Been Victim Of Home Invasion Robbery

EAST LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Police are investigating the mysterious death of an 85-year-old woman who was found inside her ransacked East Los Angeles home on Monday.

Victoria Oleta's body was found around 8:20 a.m. in the 1400 block of South Vancouver Avenue.

Oleta's neighbor, Sophia Mendez, told KCAL9's Suraya Fadel that her cousin found the victim inside her bedroom after noticing the woman's front door was left open.

The cousin immediately contacted authorities.

Homicide detectives believe Oleta was a victim of a robbery.

"Her house was ransacked, so detectives were led to believe that she was probably a victim of a home invasion robbery," said spokeswoman Nicole Nashida from the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department.

Amy Mendez, who has lived in East L.A. for nearly 50 years, is now concerned about her safety and security.

"How terrible. I still can't believe it," she said.
