7.1-Magnitude Quake Hits During KCAL9 Newscast

STUDIO CITY (CBSLA) — Juan Fernandez and Sara Donchey were on the air anchoring the KCAL9 News at 8pm when Friday evening's 7.1-magnitude earthquake shook the studio.

The news set could be seen shaking and lighting equipment heard creaking as the two assessed what was happening in real-time.

"We're experiencing very strong shaking. I think we need to get under the desk."

Friday's earthquake struck at 8:21 p.m. and was centered in the same location as Thursday's, near Ridgecrest in Kern County.
