Trutanich Trailing In City Attorney Race; Measure A Falling Short
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Early returns released by the City Clerk's Office show the half-cent sales tax that supporters say was critical to city services failing, while an incumbent trails in the City Attorney race.
So far, 52.97 percent of voters have voted No on Measure A, the half-cent sales tax. The measure, which would fund the police and fire departments and social services, needs a simple majority to pass.
In the race for Los Angeles City Attorney, Assemblyman Mike Feuer leads with 42.03 percent of the vote, but he needs a 50 percent majority to avoid a runoff election on May 21. Incumbent Carmen Trutanich is trailing with 32.66 percent of the vote.
Councilman Dennis Zine posted an early lead in the race for Controller, but his lead fell to 38.95 percent, while attorney Ron Galperin has 33.90 percent.
In the City Council races, assemblymen Bob Blumenfield and Felipe Fuentes appears poised to win their districts outright, with 53.73 and 53.35 percent of the vote, respectively. In District No. 11, Mike Bonin -- deputy to Councilman Bill Rosendahl, the incumbent -- is leading the field in that race with 60.49percent.
The city council seats of incumbents Paul Koretz and Joe Buscaino appear secure with 73.29 percent and 81.56 percent, respectively.
Council Districts No. 1, 9 and 13 appear to be headed for a runoff election.
