Dying Father Who Gave Away Daughter From His Hospital Bed To Be Laid To Rest Sunday

VICTORVILLE (CBSLA.com) — A Victorville father with cancer who gave his daughter away last month from his hospital bed will be laid to rest Sunday.

David Wilson passed away Tuesday night after a battle with a rare cancer, his son, Bob Brice said.

Wilson had been moved home to spend his final days peacefully with family. But it was from his hospital room at UCI Medical Center in Orange that he watched his daughter, Laura Wilson, and her fiancé, Robert Pantoja, exchange vows after the couple moved up their wedding so he could attend.

"No, it's not a bride's dream," she told CBS2's Crystal Cruz last week.

"I asked him, 'I said daddy I want to do my father-daughter dance with you.' He said, 'I can't dance and I said you don't have to. I want to dance with your hands,'" she remembered.

Brice says a public service will be held Sunday at 16070 Lorene Drive in Victorville. A burial service will follow.

The father and daughter shared their dance to the song "I Will Always Love You."

And his son-in-law will likely never forget some of the last words Wilson told him.

"He looked at me, he goes 'Rob, you're the lucky one. You won the lottery; you got my baby girl,'" Pantoja said.
