Dwight Howard On Verge Of Coming To Lakers
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The Los Angeles Lakers and General Manager Mitch Kupchak are close to acquiring Dwight Howard from the Orlando Magic in an off-season deal.
CBS2/KCAL9 Sports Director Jim hill confirms a plan is underway to send Andrew Bynum to the Philadelphia 76ers and bring Howard to the Lakers.
Under the proposed deal, the Denver Nuggets will acquire Andre Iguodala from the Philadelphia 76ers, as well as Jason Richardson from Orlando. The Magic will get Al Harrington and Arron Afflalo from Denver, as well as Nikola Vucevic and Moe Harkless from Philadelphia.
The Lakers, along with the Nuggets and the 76ers, will also send a protected first-round pick to the Magic.
General managers of all four teams are expected to participate in a conference call Friday morning.
If they approve the deal, which does not mention Pau Gasol, it will be sent to the NBA.
Former UCLA Bruin Arron Afflalo was the first player involved to take to Twitter:
The Lakers could now begin training camp with a projected starting lineup of Steve Nash, Kobe Bryant, Metta World Piece, Pau Gasol and Dwight Howard.
All eyes will be on Howard and Bryant, as their relationship has been described as "icy" by some.
Bynum, 24, has spent his seven-year career with the Lakers, after being selected 10th overall in the 2005 NBA draft.
He appeared in his first All-Star game this past season, averaging a career high 35 minutes per game and scoring just under 19 points per game.
Bynum has some durability concerns, however, having only played 60+ regular season games three times in his career.
