DUI Suspect's Arraignment Postponed In Taco Truck Crash That Killed 2
BOYLE HEIGHTS (CBS) — The arraignment for a DUI suspect accused of plowing into a taco truck and killing two people was postponed Tuesday.
Elba Jimenez, 37, is facing two counts of murder, as well as DUI and other charges.
CHP officers noticed Jimenez swerving on the 10 Freeway near Alameda at 11:20 p.m. Saturday and began chasing her white Toyota Camry.
The pursuit continued northbound on Interstate 5 and ended near Cesar Chavez Avenue when, according to authorities, Jimenez crashed into a white truck that was towing a taco truck.
Two female customers, ages 38 and 19, were pronounced dead at the scene. The younger victim was identified as Marlene Alatorre. The older woman was identified as Claudia Fernandez, a mother of four.
Three people, including a pregnant woman, were injured inside the truck. Two of them were taken to area hospitals for treatment of minor injuries.
Jimenez, who suffered minor injuries, is being held on $2 million bail.
