Ducks Host Hockey Fights Cancer Night At Honda Center
ANAHEIM (CBSLA.com) — As part of a month-long, league-wide initiative, the Anaheim Ducks hosted Hockey Fights Cancer Night against the Dallas Stars at the Honda Center on Sunday evening.
The first 3,000 fans who entered the arena received lavender Hockey Fights Cancer ribbons to wear throughout the game. Ducks broadcasters, executives and coaches all wore lavender Hockey Fights Cancer ties.
Throughout the month, Ducks players will sport Hockey Fights Cancer decals on their helmets.
An online auction of game-used, player-autographed hockey stickets, which are to be wrapped in lavender tape, will be held at AnaheimDucks.com/auction.
Lavender has been adopted as the color to represent awareness for cancer of all types.
Throughout Sunday game, fans were able to create inspiration cards, recognizing loved ones who have been affected by cancer. During a moment in the second period, fans were invited to display their cards.
The Ducks honored Annie Sellas, Cathy Stockton and Nancy Varner, who founded Inland Women Fight Cancer in 2007, in a pregame ceremony. The group has reportedly raised $1.7 million for the Loma Linda University Cancer Center.
