Du-Par's To Mark Encino Grand Opening With Hotcakes For 25 Cents, Coffee For A Nickel
ENCINO (CBSLA.com) — One of the Southland's oldest pancake restaurants is set to give customers a taste of what it cost to eat breakfast more than 70 years ago.
Du-par's announced Friday the grand opening of its newest restaurant in Encino, where on May 19 diners can enjoy the same prices the eatery originally charged back in 1938 - at least for one day.
From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Du-par's legendary old-fashioned buttermilk hotcakes will be 25 cents, fresh-ground hamburgers will go for 20 cents, award-winning fresh-fruit pie for 15 cents and coffee for just 5 cents a cup.
The newest location at 16120 Ventura Boulevard near Woodley Avenue joins the original 1938 Du-par's Farmhouse at the Los Angeles Farmers Market, and the Studio City Du-par's, built in 1948.
In 2011, Du-Par's offered customers a short stack of buttermilk pancakes for only 40 cents at its Studio City location - the exact amount they cost when the restaurant first opened its doors - as part of its 1948 Price Pancake Fest.
