Drivers Killed In Separate Big Rig Crashes Along 210 Freeway Identified
PASADENA (CBSLA.com) — The drivers of two big rigs killed in separate crashes along the Foothill (210) Freeway in Pasadena were identified by authorities Friday.
The first crash happened about 12:10 a.m. Thursday on the two-lane underground transition road from the eastbound 210 Freeway to the continuation of the eastbound 210 Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Gerald Hall, 58, of Arroyo Grande died at the scene, coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter said. The crash involved three big rigs and three other vehicles, CHP Officer Alex Rubio said.
Transition lanes at the scene were blocked for nearly 24 hours as crews worked to clear the road.
The second fatal crash was reported at 2:57 a.m., just about four miles east on the eastbound 210 Freeway. The crash shut down the Metro Gold Line between Pasadena's Allen and Sierra Madre Villa stations.
Oscar Avila-Reyes, 33, of Moreno Valley died at the scene, Winter said.
Debris from the crash, in which a big rig struck the freeway center divider, littered the adjacent Gold Line tracks, which runs down the middle of the freeway.
According to the CHP, both the body and the big rig's trailer ended up on the tracks.
Rail service along a stretch of tracks was interrupted, and a bus bridge was established to ferry passengers around the area. Service was restored at about noon.
