Drivers In Deadly Crash May Have Been Street Racing
WESTMINSTER (CBS) — A young woman was killed in a car crash Thursday evening and witnesses say it may have been caused by street racing.
The accident was reported at Hoover and Hazard avenues at about 5:30 p.m.
Police believe that the driver of a red Toyota, 19-year-old Jorel Dayoan, convertible was racing another car when he lost control, hit a curb and rammed into a silver minivan that was passing by.
"There were heavy skid marks prior to the crash but a lot of vehicle damage, which is indicative of high speed prior to impact," said Sgt. Cameron Knauerhaze, of the Westminster Police Department.
Westminster resident Jessica Dayoan, 18, was a passenger in her brother's Toyota and died on the scene. Jorel Dayoan was taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana. He was treated and released Friday.
The driver of the minivan was also critically injured and taken to UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange.
Investigators are looking for the driver of oversized gray pickup truck that Dayoan had been racing prior to the crash.
