The victims were hit by a truck heading eastbound on Vanowen that failed to stop at a red light and render any kind of aid shortly after 7 a.m., according to LAPD Traffic Division Sgt. Larry Jones.

"We had two pedestrians approximately 14 years old each, male and female, in the crosswalk, and the vehicle struck both," Jones said.

Juliana Maya, 17, was walking with the victims to the Metro bus stop across the street when the crash happened.

"They couldn't talk or anything, and the girl was crying and screaming. The boy was lying down and he couldn't move," she said.

Paramedics transported the victims to a nearby hospital. Both are expected to survive.

Police are looking for the driver of the vehicle, which is described as a teal-green, older-model vintage Nissan.

Anyone with information is being urged to call Valley Traffic Division detectives or (877) LAPD-247.
