Driver Killed, Another Hurt In Big Rig Crash On 5 Freeway Near Santa Clarita
SANTA CLARITA (CBS) — A man was killed and another person was injured in a collision in a multi-car crash near the Golden State (5) Freeway near Santa Clarita Monday.
The crash was reported at 2:07 p.m. on the westbound side of Henry Mayo Drive, just west of the Golden State Freeway. Westbound lanes on Henry Mayo Drive were shut down and traffic was reduced to one lane in each direction until just after 7 p.m. when all lanes were reopened, California Highway Patrol Officer Krystal Carter said.
The crash reportedly involved a big rig, trash truck and a Jaguar sedan, police said.
Investigators were looking into witness reports that the big rig may have blown a tire just before the crash, Carter said.
The driver of the sedan was killed. The victim's name was not immediately released.
Another person was airlifted to a hospital, but the extent of their injuries was not immediately known, Carter said.
