Family Mourns Young Father Shot To Death On Christmas
EAST LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A young man drove his vehicle into a light post after he was fatally shot in East L.A. early Tuesday.
Sheriff's homicide detectives said the man was likely shot while driving on Hicks Avenue at around 2 a.m. The vehicle continued moving until it crashed into a light pole at the intersection of Olympic Boulevard and Ditman Avenue.
The driver had been shot multiple times. He was declared dead at the scene.
A woman riding in the car was not injured.
Investigators wouldn't confirm the victim's name but relatives told CBS2/KCAL9's Brittney Hopper that the driver was 22-year-old Fabian Macias.
Relatives said they don't understand why anyone would want to kill Macias. While the killer is still on the loose, the victim's family did not want to give their names.
"I'm just stunned by everything. It's Christmas, you know. You don't expect to hear this," a friend of the victim told Hopper. "He was the type of person if you asked him to do a favor he would never hesitate to do it, he would just be there and do it for you."
The victim's mother said he was a good man who loved his family and one-year-old daughter.
Deputies would not say whether the shooting was gang-related, only that they haven't yet established a motive.
Sheriff's Department spokesperson Lillian Peck said investigators plan on questioning the female passenger to find out more.
