Suspected Driver Detained Following Fatal South LA Hit-And-Run Of Pedestrian
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) – Authorities say a female driver was in custody in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident in South Los Angeles.
Police were dispatched to the scene on South Broadway and West Gage Avenue about 12:38 a.m. Sunday, said Los Angeles police Sgt. Gregory Hoyte.
The police sergeant said the motorist was traveling west on Gage Avenue when a pedestrian was fatally struck.
For some unknown reason, police said the victim was lying in the roadway and was alive when he was hit.
The suspected driver allegedly fled after the crash, but according to authorities, was later detained in part due to witness accounts of the vehicle.
The alleged driver has been identified as 56-year-old Vernice Taylor of Los Angeles.
The victim's name has not been released. Authorities said the man was about 60 years of age.
