At Large Parolee Arrested After Wild Police Chase
VAN NUYS (CBS) — A car chase that apparently started with Los Angeles school police ended in the San Fernando Valley on Wednesday after a wild pursuit that saw the driver at one point take the car onto a city sidewalk.
The chase started about 4:10 p.m. near Balboa Boulevard and Victory Boulevard, and was headed west toward Warner Center about 30 minutes later as the driver was talking to his father on a cell phone as the chase continued, KCAL9 reported.
Police eventually stopped the vehicle in Woodland Hills, where they took the driver -- described Wednesday evening as an at-large parolee -- into custody.
Early reports said the the suspect was wanted for assault on a police officer. That could not be confirmed.
The car was on the sidewalk at one point, but apparently caused no immediate accidents.
The chase lasted approximately 50 minutes.
The driver was taken into custody near Van Owen Street on Louise Avenue.
