AIDS Walk LA Expected To Raise About $3 Million
WEST HOLLYWOOD (CBS) — About 30,000 people were taking part in AIDS Walk Los Angeles Sunday under drizzly skies.
Comedian and host of "The Price Is Right," Drew Carey, along with Pauley Perrette of "NCIS" and Sara Ramirez from "Grey's Anatomy" were expected to walk in the 6.2-mile fundraiser for AIDS Project Los Angeles and other AIDS-related organizations.
The event was expected to raise about $3 million to help treat and care for people living with AIDS/HIV. Since 1985, the walk has raised about $66 million for APLA, one of the largest nonprofit AIDS service organizations in the country.
Walkers began at West Hollywood Park and headed east on Santa Monica Boulevard, south on La Cienega Boulevard, east on Melrose Avenue, south on La Brea Avenue, west on Beverly Boulevard, and finally north on San Vicente back to the park.
Street closures during the walk included Santa Monica Boulevard between San Vicente Boulevard and La Brea Avenue and Melrose Avenue between La Brea Avenue and San Vicente Boulevard.
