Protesters Say Construction Of Cultural Center Downtown Should Be Halted, KNX 1070's Ed Mertz reports
Demonstrators say the LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes project at 5th and Main is being built at a cemetery which contains remains of Native Americans among others.
According to protesters, nearly 700 people were buried at the site and they believe a third could be Native Americans.
Project officials confirm remains have been found but say the coroner's office dates the remains to when the land was a church cemetery.
Meantime, the Native American Heritage Commission has asked coroner's officials to order a halt on the project.
