Dozens Flock To Hawthorne Store For Powerball Tickets

HAWTHORNE (CBSLA.com) — Several dozen people Saturday lined up outside a Hawthorne liquor store to purchase tickets for the much-anticipated Powerball drawing.

Fueled by a desire to win, lottery hopefuls flocked to Bluebird Liquor in the 13700 block of Hawthorne Boulevard, where four jackpots have previously been sold.

Each of those winning tickets had paid out over a million dollars. The liquor store has also been a hot spot for other smaller pay-outs.

"There are winners here already. You never know. There might be another winner. That's why I'm here," said Thomas, one store patron.

The $600 jackpot is the largest in Powerball history. The previous record jackpot reached $588 million in November of last year.

The multi-state jackpot is played in 45 jurisdictions. The $2-per-play Powerball game arrived in California this past April.

The cash value of Saturday's jackpot is $376.9 million.
