Downey Resident Stumbles Upon Suspected Burglar In Her Kitchen
DOWNEY (CBSLA.com) — A woman walked into her apartment's kitchen in Downey last week to find a man had apparently broken in through her balcony's unlocked sliding door.
Downey police say a neighbor called them Thursday after spotting the transient climbing the victim's second-story balcony.
Officers arrived to the apartment in the 7400 block of Firestone Place and found Arturo Duarte, 30, hiding in the bathroom.
Duarte was placed under arrest and fingerprints reportedly tied him to a trespassing and sexual assault incident reported on June 27.
In that case, a woman living in the 11000 block of Haro Avenue says she was asleep in her bedroom when she woke up to find a strange man lying beside her. He apparently entered through a bedroom window and assaulted the victim before fleeing the scene.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office is charging Duarte with a felony count of residential burglary, a misdemeanor count of sexual battery and a misdemeanor count of trespassing.
