Donovan Awarded U.S. Soccer Player Of The Year
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Landon Donovan has been honored as the U.S. player of the year for a record seventh time by Futbol de Primera.
Donovan, whose stoppage-time goal against Algeria sent the Americans into the second round at the World Cup in South Africa, won the award for the fourth straight year Wednesday. He's the first player to win it seven times. Donovan finished with 403 points in the vote by U.S. media members, well ahead of Michael Bradley (169 points) and Clint Dempsey (157 points).
Futbol de Primera is the U.S. radio broadcaster for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. It broadcast last year's tournament in South Africa on more than 100 radio stations in the United States.
