Donald Trump Meets With President Obama At White House
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com/AP) — President-elect Donald Trump visited the White House Thursday to meet with President Obama to create a seamless transition in leadership.
Obama and Trump spent most of the meeting discussing how to properly staff a White House operation, according to White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest.
"We discussed a lot of differing situations," Trump said in an interview with CBS News. "Some wonderful, some difficult."
President Obama left the meeting "with renewed confidence in the President-elect," Earnest added.
First Lady Michelle Obama also met privately with Trump's wife, Melania.
Just one day after the election, thousands of demonstrators flooded streets across the country to protest Trump's surprise triumph.
Protesters marched around 7 p.m. Wednesday outside City Hall in downtown Los Angeles, shutting down portions of the 101 Freeway.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, nearly 30 people were arrested.
The crowd drew an ethnically diverse group of more than 5,000 people.
Some demonstrators chanted "Not my president," and at least one had a sign that stated: "Trump Equals Death."
A group of Franklin High School students marched in protest Thursday against Trump's victory, CBS2's Kara Finnstrom reported.
Other protesters took part in rallies along the West Coast, Boston, Chicago, Kansas City, Rhode Island, Maine, New York City, Dallas and Washington, D.C., declared they refused to accept Trump's presidency.
Trump will officially be sworn into office in January.
