Dog Rescued From Hot Car Containing Marijuana, Cash Doing OK
GARDENA (CBS) — The dog rescued from a hot car in West Hollywood that also contained 7 pounds of marijuana in sealed bags and $10,000 in cash is doing well at the Carson Animal Care Center.
The German Pointer, now named Hunter by staff and volunteers, was described as a bit timid and nervous after his rescue from the vehicle, a red 1993 Nissan Pathfinder with Arizona plates, on Sunday afternoon.
After sheriff's deputies rescued Hunter from the vehicle, they found $24,000 worth of marijuana in sealed bags and $10,000 in cash.
Hunter is being kept safe and comfortable in the care of Department of Animal Care and Control, the agency said.
The DACC says Hunter's plight is a reminder about the dangers of leaving a pet inside a car, especially as the summer months approach. Although outside temperatures may be mild, the temperature can quickly become dangerous for a pet locked inside a vehicle.
Several people have already offered to adopt Hunter if he goes unclaimed.
Hunter's owner has not yet been identified. Anyone recognizing Hunter can call the DACC at (310) 523-9566 or the West Hollywood Sheriff's Department at (310) 855-8850.
