Dodgers To Open Season In Australia With Diamondbacks
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) As if the Dodgers haven't seen enough of the Diamondbacks, they will open next season against Arizona in Australia on March 22, 2014. at the historic Sydney Cricket Ground.
The ground-breaking event was announced by the Premier of New South Wales, Barry O'Farrell, at a press conference in Sydney, Wednesday.
"Major League Baseball is thrilled that the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Los Angeles Dodgers will open our 2014 regular season in Sydney, Australia," Baseball Commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig said. "The globalization of our game continues to be paramount to Major League Baseball, and Australia is an essential part of our long-term efforts to grow the sport. We look forward to writing an exciting new chapter in international baseball history at the historic Sydney Cricket Ground next March."
Both the Dodgers and the D-backs will play Spring Training games in Glendale, Arizona on Sunday, March 16 before departing that evening and arriving in Sydney on the morning of Tuesday, March 18.
