Dodgers' Joc Pederson To Compete In 2015 Home Run Derby
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Los Angeles Dodgers rookie Joc Pederson will represent the Dodgers and the National League in the 2015 Home Run Derby, it was announced Wednesday.
Pederson is just the third NL rookie to hit 20 home runs by the end of June in his rookie season, according to Eric Stephen of TrueBlueLA. One of the other two, Albert Pujols, will also be in the 2o15 Home Run Derby at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, though he will be representing the American League.
Pederson took over the Dodgers' center field duties after the club traded Matt Kemp to the San Diego Padres during the offseason in a deal that brough catcher Yasmani Grandal, who will join Pederson in the All-Star Game, to LA.
The 23-year-old is batting .230 in 2015, with 20 home runs and 39 RBI, and has established that he has gold-glove potential at the position.
The Dodgers, however, have never fared well in the Home Run Derby.
